Our Systems
Type A
Barrier Protection

Type A protection systems are defined by BS 8102:2022 as “barrier protection”. This is where a membrane is put in place which offers a barrier to the passage of water between the internal and external environments of the structure.
Type B
Structurally Integral Protection

Type B structurally integral waterproofing, as defined by BS 8102:2022 (Code of Practice for protection of below ground structures against water ingress), is where the structure itself is constructed as an integral water-resistant shell.
Type C
Drained Protection

Type C systems use internal groundwater management, utilising a cavity between the external skin and internal finish in structures. Groundwater is lead to an appropriate sump-pump system or drainage outlet with a non-return valve.
How Atal Provides A System Solution
In the past designers and specifiers have typically chosen one solution over another for new build construction projects.
However, with the financial implications of program build delays, and the additional costs of remedials associated with water ingress, it is now becoming more widely accepted that a multiple system approach and in particular, a combined system strategy utilising a membrane system (Type A) in conjunction with watertight concrete (Type B) to provide two elements of protection thus further minimising any risks, is more appropriate.
All buildings with sub-structures require waterproofing as a way of delivering the design life durability for which they were intended, incorporating best practice design principles at the construction stage is the most cost-effective way to maintain its value through its service life.
Where the walls or floors are constructed of concrete or masonry the substrate should be treated using Atal Lime Inhibitor, reducing the risk of free lime leaching and obstructing the drainage system. Type C systems should be maintainable and inspected at regular intervals throughout the lifetime of the structure.
We specify a maintenance point every 10 linear metres of channel where possible, external inspection ports may be used on semi basement projects where ground gas is present. The first inspection should be within 3 months of project completion and every 12 months thereafter.
Our sumps and pumps are specified on a job-by-job basis. We expect to see one sump per 50m of perimeter channel. Once the expected flow rate into the sump is established the sump specification can be provided. Our pump systems are specified to industry best practice, this includes a suitable dual pump system (two inlets and two outlets), with high level alarm and battery backup. Depending on budget and project needs various upgrades to are available including telemetric systems.

The Structural Waterproofing Guide | Lets Talk Betocrete
The Betocrete C series product group is a next generation crystalline concrete waterproofing additive with innovative and permanently active 2 in 1 technology, which is both a hydrophobic and micro pore blocking admixture using crystal forming ingredients. These produce millions of nano-crystals to stop water transport mechanisms, thus increasing the long-term durability of the concrete.
“Thank you very much for the CPD this morning, it was very informative, technically based and well structured. It made a change to have a CPD that kept our attention throughout, we have all got into the habit of trying to multitask which isn’t a good habit when you are supposed to be learning! The showing of the samples worked well too.”

Atal have provided consistently quality products, on time at very competitive prices when compared to other high spec structural waterproofing brands. Customer Service has also been consistently, and the inclusion of detailed design documents tailored to specific projects goes above and beyond what other waterproofing companies are often willing to do. Overall, Atal have provided reliable, high quality products and customer service every time we have required their expertise
Tom Luscombe
The customers that have been supplied with the admixture have been pleased and we have had no issues with strength or quality.
The change to the bags sizes (introduction of the water soluble bag) has made it easier especially for manually handling on the plant side.
Atal have a comprehensive product range, they always offer practical achievable solution and delivery on time results. David is very knowledgeable, and his positive approach is refreshing, hopefully we will continue to enjoy our mutually beneficial relationship, long into the future.
Simon Monk
We always use Atal for their waterproofing expertise because of their technical ability to provide bespoke waterproofing design solutions tailored to our structural requirements in a proactive and efficient timescale
